Caregiver Program
As a CAREGIVER, you have options to come to Canada to become a permanent resident or work temporarily.
Caregiver:
Families can hire a foreign caregiver to provide care, in a private residence, to children, seniors or persons with certified medical needs, when Canadian and permanent residents are not available.
Caregiver programs:
Currently there are two programs, which allow Canadian citizens and permanent residents living in Canada, to hire foreign CAREGIVERS to work at their homes:
- Home Childcare provider – NOC 4411
This job is for caring of children under 18 years of age.
- Home Support Worker – NOC 4412
This job is for those who work with seniors, persons with disabilities.
How the process works:
- You apply to either the Home Child Care Provider Pilot or the Home Support Worker Pilot, depending on which occupation you plan to work in.
- You submit a work permit application together with your permanent residence application.
- If you meet the requirements, you get a work permit to work in Canada temporarily.
- The work permit you get is an occupation-restricted open work permit and lets you work as a caregiver for any employer.
- Get at least 24 months of work experience to qualify for permanent residence.
- You send us proof of your work experience once you have enough.
- We make a final decision on your application for permanent residence.
